The `Double S" name either comes from Ayrton's Last Name of Senna da Silva or from the fact there is a corner at Interlagos names the Senna S.

Ayrton Senna was born on 21st March 1960 in Sau Paulo, Brazil and died tragically, doing the thing he loved the most, driving a Formula One car, on 1st May 1994 at Imola in San Marino. At the time of his death he held the second position in terms of total number of championship points with 614 (Alain Prost had 798.5), the most pole positions with 66 (nearly double that of the second place man, Jim Clark on 33) and second to Prost again in total number of wins with 41 (Prost having 51).

The name is likely to be brought back to the forefront of the fans thoughts soon too as his nephew, Bruno Senna, is making his presence known in the junior formulae and will be driving in the GP2 championship this year. He has been quoted as saying that he would like to be driving in Formula One, possibly a McLaren, within the next couple of years.
