2009 Formula One Rules

Credit crunch, no more Honda, KERS - 2009 looks to be a very different year to 2008 in Formula One.

Here is a summary of the rules changes:

  • Tyres - Back to slicks

  • Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) - teams can optionally use a KERS system to store braking energy in a flywheel or battery and use this as a performance boost

  • Engine - maximum revs down to 18,000 from 19,000 rpm, drivers must use the same engine for 3 races in a row

  • Aerodynamics - sigificantly reduced with many ugly looking winglets, etc. banned

  • Testing - none during the season

So as you can see this is a massive shift for Formula One and let's hope once and for all that it means an end to processional races!

Roll on 27th March!
